Class Actions Law Clerk – 1-year contract with benefits and paid vacation included!

Our client is a plaintiff-side litigation law firm located in downtown Toronto. They currently have an opening for a Law Clerk in our Claimants Team in the Class Actions Department.

In this newly created team, the successful candidate will be responsible for taking a prominent role in managing and administering the court approvals process in awarding aggregate damages and helping to determine individual issues in claims related to recent class action decisions and settlements.

The Law Clerk must have strong work and professional ethics, an adaptable personality, and a willingness to take initiative in developing this new and fast-growing segment of our practice. The job requires frequent direct telephone and email contact with class members, all of whom have mental health issues, and ongoing interaction with other members of our law firm at all levels of seniority.

The ideal candidate is bilingual in French and English, and will have at least one (1) to two (2) years of experience in litigation and/or personal injury and will possess the following:

• Law Clerk Diploma and/or post secondary degree
• Experience in working in personal injury is considered an asset.
• Ability to conduct and prepare intake forms and complete document reviews for claimants.
• Experience obtaining and managing confidential medical records.
• Draft court materials as requested.
• Understand the Rules of Civil Procedure
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to organize and manage large volumes of files and documents.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office
• Experience docketing their own time in an accounting system.
• Other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Communicate with class members, including conducting in-depth intake interviews.
• Organize, manage, and update files, documents, and records.
• Draft pleadings, affidavits, motions, and pre-trial memos
• Summarize and briefing on medical documentation.
• Assist with preparation for summary judgement.

This is a hybrid role with the ability to mostly work from home
